FAQs
What happens during the first session?
Think of the first session as a conversation, not an interrogation. It’s your space to share what brings you in, what you’re hoping for, and what feels most important right now. We’ll focus on building trust and connection with your provider, not rushing through a checklist. You’ll never be pushed to go deeper than you’re ready for—we move at your pace, one step at a time.
What should I bring or prepare?
For your first visit, please bring a photo ID and your insurance card—that part’s non-negotiable. Beyond that, the only thing you really need is yourself (and maybe an open mind). As therapy continues, you don’t need to prepare anything formal unless it helps you. Some people like to jot down questions or reflections between sessions, others just show up as they are in the moment. Either way works—we’ll take it from there.
How long are sessions?
Our sessions are a full 60 minutes—uninterrupted time that’s all about you. Think of it as your standing appointment with clarity and calm. The hour gives us space to dig deep without feeling rushed, and to end in a way that feels complete. It’s a rhythm you can count on every time you walk through our doors.
How does payment work?
We accept most major insurance plans, as well as cash, check, all major credit cards, and Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards. For clients paying out of pocket, we also offer sliding scale options based on need.
Our intake team will review your benefits, explain expected costs, and answer questions before your first session. Please note that final responsibility for payment rests with the client if services are not covered or if insurance denies a claim.
Who will I be working with?
You’ll be paired with a therapist who feels like the right fit for you—someone matched to your goals, preferences, and personality. Every clinician on our team is well-trained, trauma-informed, and—most importantly—deeply human: compassionate, approachable, and committed to creating a space where you feel safe enough to grow and supported enough to heal.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share in therapy stays private. The only exceptions are rare situations where the law requires us to break confidentiality—like if there are immediate safety concerns. We’ll go over these limits clearly in your first session so there are no surprises.
For full details, you can always review our Privacy Practices.
What if I feel nervous or unsure?
That’s more common than you think—and it’s completely okay. Beginning therapy can feel vulnerable, but it’s also the first step toward something new. We’ll move at your pace, keep things gentle, and make sure you always feel supported. You’re in the driver’s seat the whole way.
Can I switch therapists if it doesn’t feel like the right fit?
Absolutely. The relationship you have with your therapist is one of the most important parts of the healing process, and sometimes it takes a little trial and error to find the right connection. If it doesn’t feel like a fit, we’ll support you in finding someone who’s better aligned—with zero judgment, zero pressure, and every bit of care for what works best for you.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We know life doesn’t always run on schedule, and sometimes things come up. If you need to cancel or reschedule, just call or email us—we simply ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. That way, we can offer your spot to another client who may be waiting for care.
Because your therapist sets aside that full hour just for you, late cancellations (less than 24 hours) and missed appointments are billed at the full session fee. We do make exceptions for true emergencies or sudden illness, and can offer a one-time courtesy if something unexpected happens. Otherwise, keeping this policy helps us honor both your therapist’s time and the needs of other clients.
If you’re ever in a pinch, ask us about telehealth—we are typically able to keep your appointment without you needing to come into the office.
What if I have more questions that are not on this list?
Ask away—we’re here for that. Whether it’s something small or something big, our team is only a call, message, or email away. No question is too simple, and no concern is too much. If it matters to you, it matters to us.
